Akfen Holding A.Ş. Chairman of the Board of Directors
Born in İstanbul in 1954, Hamdi Akın graduated from Gazi University, Mechanical Engineering Department. In 1976, he established the Akfen Holding operating in construction, tourism, trading and service sectors. Besides being the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Akfen Holding, he also took office as the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the TAV Airports Holding in 2005, where the Akfen Holding was the founder and the shareholder. Also realized infrastructure, energy and investment projects in addition being a private entrepreneur, Akın has also brought his dynamism and efforts in business world to the non-governmental organizations, by taking office as the founder and executive in many associations, foundations and trade associations. Akın rendered service as Deputy Chairman of the Fenerbahçe Sports Club between 2000–2002, Head of the Ankara Region Delegation of MESS (The Turkish Employers’ Association of Metal Industries) between 1992–2004, Chairman of the Board of Directors of TÜGİAD (The Young Businessmen Association of Turkey) between 1998-2000, Member of the Board of Directors of TİSK (The Turkish Confederation of Employer Associations) between 1995–2001 and Member of the Board of Directors of TÜSİAD (The Turkish Industrialists and Businessmen's Association) between 2008-2009 besides being Head of the Information Society & Emerging Technologies Commission. Since 2011, he has been rendering service as Member of the Board of Directors of the Turkish Marine Environment Protection Association /TURMEPA.
One of the founders of the Chair for Contemporary Turkish Studies in London School of Economics, Akın bears since 1999 the titles of Founder Member and Honorary Chairman of TİKAV (The Foundation of Human Resources of Turkey) which was established by him for providing a well-versed human resource for Turkey, and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Foundation for Support of Kayseri Abdullah Gül University.
