“We Fix, You Study Project”

The “We Fix, You Study” Project began in partnership with Mersin International Port and TIKAV supported by Mersin Governorship and Mersin Provincial Directorate for National Education in 2012. The project aimed to renovate at least one school every year determined by the Mersin Provincial Directorate for National Education. Through whitewashing, painting, restoration, the project aimed to provide benefit to society. In addition, educational materials and furniture were also provided within the budget of this project.

Within the scope of the project, schools that were restored held handover ceremonies and handed the finished schools to the owners and the children of the school. This project further aimed to up scale the school environments to adjust to the times we are in. Within the scope of the project:

  • In 2012, “Our Common Language is Colours”, TIKAV Scholars restored the Kazanlı Primary School joint to the Mersin Mediterranean District Governorship. Class doors, curtains, cupboard, teacher’s desks and chairs were all renewed and the roof and garden of the schools were also restored. MIP also donated computers to the school and controlled the electrical wiring.


  • In 2013, an unused building in the Dikilitaş Primary School garden was restored and turned into a two-classroom primary school building. The kitchen and classrooms of the main school were restored, electric and water instalments were renewed, toilets and and the roof of the building were destroyed and build from scratch and the front garden was maintained.

  • In 2014, the restoration and maintenance of the Halil Algün Primary School took place. All the electrical instalments were renewed, internal and external walls painted, classroom and corridor floors and stairs covered in ceramic, door wings were changed and the building itself was painted over. Educational materials and furniture was covered by the project budget.

  • In 2015, the restoration and maintenance of the Mimar Sinan Middle School and Vali Sabahattin Çakmakoğlu Middle School were carried out. Within the scope of the project the internal and external walls and ceilings were restored at Mimar Sinan. At Vali Sabahattin Çakmakoğlu, the internal and external walls were painted, the steps and corridor floors were replaced with ceramics, the electrical instalments were renewed and maintained, classroom doors were replaced and the toilets were restored.


  • In 2016, the Toroslar Kuvayi Milliye Primary School and Akdeniz Kıbrıs Primary School were restored and maintained. The internal floors were renewed and covered in ceramics; internal and external walls were painted and maintained, school gardens were renewed. The electrical instalments, classroom doors, hangers, wall panels, classroom and teacher room cupboard renewed and the toilets were completely restored and maintained. TIKAV Scholars also helped with the restoration and painting of the schools within the scope of The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award Residential Project.
